Fill Timesheets from Your Activity Log in Minutes

Fill timesheets from your activity log, not memory. Algenius Pro logs your day on Windows and Linux, you fix the timeline, then copy hours in minutes.

Updated October 17, 2026 3 min read By Algenius

It is Friday at 5pm and the timesheet is due. You stare at five empty days and try to remember whether Tuesday afternoon was the client bug or the internal migration. Filling a timesheet from your activity log instead of from memory turns that guessing game into a quick review.

Algenius is a plug-and-play daily activity logging and screenshot app for Windows and Linux. On Algenius Pro, the Daily Activity Logger records your sessions in the background, and Timeline View lets you correct each block before you copy the hours into any timesheet.

Why timesheets from memory go wrong

  • Recency bias: You remember Friday clearly and Monday barely at all.
  • Rounding everything: "4h on project X" hides the real split and ruins future estimates.
  • Lost small tasks: Reviews, calls, and quick fixes rarely make it onto the sheet.
  • Billing disputes: Clients question hours that have no detail behind them.

How to fill a timesheet from your activity log

1. Let the logger run (Pro)

Work normally. The Daily Activity Logger records your sessions on Windows or Linux with no timers to remember.

2. Review the day in Timeline View

Open the day and check each block. Edit the title and notes, set the type, and tune the start and end times when a block is not quite right.

3. Check the category split

Timeline View shows how the day splits by category. Make sure client work, internal work, and meetings land where they belong, then approve the day.

4. Read the AI summary

The AI-generated daily summary gives you short, readable descriptions you can paste into the notes column of your timesheet.

5. Copy hours into your timesheet

Move the approved totals into the tool your team uses: a spreadsheet, a billing app, or a payroll form. Paste supporting screenshots into Excel or Google Sheets with the steps in paste screenshots into Excel and Google Sheets.

6. Attach proof where it helps

For client work, press Alt+Q to capture the finished screen, annotate it in the advanced premium editor, fully free, and keep it with the entry.

Example: one day, from log to timesheet

Client A, bug fixes: 2h 40m, "Fixed checkout rounding error, deployed to staging."

Client B, design review: 1h 15m, "Reviewed settings page v2, left 6 comments."

Internal, code review: 55m, "Reviewed 3 pull requests."

Meetings: 45m, "Standup and sprint planning."

Use cases by role

Freelancers: Bill accurate hours with notes clients can actually read.

Agency teams: Split time across clients without end of week guesswork.

Developers: Show the review and debugging time that never appears in commits. See automatic work log for developers.

Consultants: Back up every invoice line with a reviewed daily summary.

Your log, your control

Timesheets work best when the person doing the work owns the data. With Algenius you review and edit every session before anything goes on the sheet, so the timesheet reflects what you did, in your words. For a trust-first approach, read time tracking with screenshots, without spyware vibes.

Common mistakes

  • Waiting until Friday: Review each day in a minute instead of rebuilding the week.
  • Copying raw data: Edit titles and notes so a client or manager understands them.
  • Ignoring small tasks: Short reviews and calls add up across a week.
  • Skipping proof for client work: One screenshot can settle a billing question.
